Very nice Wehrmacht Infanterie Kolonne related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear (on the left edge a bit more than the rest). It belonged to a soldier who served within the leichte Infanterie Kolonne Infanterie Regiment 171. This regiment was formed inlate August 1939 and was part of the 56.Infanterie-Division. It operated for the first time in Poland in September 1939. After Poland it moved to the west and participated in the invasion of Belgium that took place in May 1940. In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia were it fought in areas like Kowel, Brjansk, Orel and Jelnja.
In October 1942 the regiment was renamend into Grenadier Regiment 171 and still part of the same division. Quite a detailed report about the heavy fighting of this regiment can be found on the net.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag on the back stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
