The document shows overall normal signs of wear. The medal was awarded on the 16th of July 1942 to Gefreiten Otto Breig who served within the 11.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 111. This regiment was formed in October 1936 and was part of the 35.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its combat during the invasion of Belgium in May 1940 and then France.
In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and fought in areas like Smolensk, Moskau and Gshatsk. In October the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 111.
