Nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 5.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 26. This regiment was formed during the Reichswehr period and was known as Infanterie Regiment Flensburg. In October 1935 it became known as Inf.Rgt.26. It was part of the 30.Infanterie-Division. As part of this division it saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it moved to the west and in May 1940 it participated in the invasion of France were it stayed until May 1941 as an occupation force. From June 1941 onwards it fought on the eastern front in areas like Ilmensee, Demjansk, Staraja Russa and later also in Kurland.
In December 1942 the regiment was renamed into Fusilier Regiment 26.
The tag is complete with its original neckcord.
