The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in Artillerie Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung 5. This unit was formed in late August 1939 and it trained and supplied soldiers for Artillerie Abteilung 671 and Artillerie Regiment 5, 85, 266, 305, 323, 335 and 355.
The uncommon thing about the tag is that there is information about the Ersatz Abteilung, Reserve Abteilung and Ausbildungs Abteilung, but nothing can be found when it was called the Artillerie Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung. This was probably never recorded.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
