Very nice Wehrmacht artillerie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 12.batterie (schwere Feldhaubitze) Artillerie Regiment 176. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 in Potsdam and was equipped with the schwere Feldhaubitze 18. It was part of the 76.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw its first combat during the invasion of France in May 1940.
In January 1940 the IV.Abteilung (10.-12.batteries) of the regiment was used to form the IV.Abteilung Artillerie Regiment 268 which was part of the 268.Infanterie-Division. This division was put into action on the Russian front and fought in areas like Best, Smolensk, Jelnja, Jochnow and Mogilew.
