Very nice zinc World War 1 related ID-tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to Arthur Fritzsche from Chemnitz. He was born in 1892 so he was 22 years old when the war broke out. He was drafted/served in the 1.Kompanie Landsturm Ersatz Bataillon Lipzig XIX.6. At some point he switched unit to Armierungs Bataillon I/85. This was a construction unit responsible for building fortifications, pillboxes, trenches, roads, (barbed wire) obstacles etc. etc.
You can imagine that this was an important branch/unit during the trench warfare in WW1 with frontlines hardly moving.
Harder to find tag.
