The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the Geschutz Ersatz Kompanie für Motorisierte Schützen Einheiten 2. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Stettin as Infanterie Ersatz Regiment (motorisiert) 2. In February 1941 it was renamed into Geschütz-Ersatz-Kompanie für motorisierte Schützen-Einheiten Schützen-Ersatz-Regiment 2 and in Geschütz-Ersatz-Kompanie für motorisierte Schützen-Einheiten 2.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for th soldier's bloodtype.
