Death notice card of Feldwebel Alois Hammerle who died during combat in Russia.
The card shows overall normal signs of wear. It's solid and has no damages. According the notice Alois died on the 26th of November 1943. He served in the 2.Kompanie Pionier Batailon 72. This regiment was formed in October 1939 and was part of the 72.Infanterie-Division. The notice shows Alois wearing a bergmütze (probably served in a Gebirgsjager unit before) and combat tunic.
With the notice comes that letter that the commander, Hauptfeldwebel Wildschutz, typed to Alois wife. Dated 10 December 1943. The letter explaines what happened with Alois (shot in the head during a Russian attack).
According to the letter and the notice Alois earned the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, but also the Eisernes Kreuz 1.Klasse, Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse and Verwundetenabzeichen. After doing some research we found a bit more information as Alois is listed on the website 'Tracesofwar'. Alois also earned the Ostmedaille, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and Gold and the Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen.
