Nice zinc Wehrmacht Grenadier related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served/was drafted in the Stammkompanie Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 463. This bataillon was formed in late August 1939 as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 463. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 463 which was part of the 263.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first action during the invasion of Belgium and then France. In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and was active in areas like Smolensk, Moskau, Juchnow and Newel.
In July 1941 Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 463 moved to France. In Novemer 1942 it was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Regiment 463. In September 1944 it was used to form Abschnittskommando Oberst Boehm and was disbanned.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
