Nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier/NCO who served within the (Stabskompanie) III.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 49. This regiment started as Infanterie Regiment Breslau and when the Reichswehr became the Wehrmacht is was renamed into Infanterie Regiment 49 in October 1935. It was part of the 28.Infanterie-Division and participated in the invasion of Poland in September 1939. After that it participated in the fighting in France which started in May 1940. In June 1941 it fought in Russia in the areas of Smolensk and Moskau untill it moved back to France in December 1941. The regiment became Jäger Regiment 49 and the division was now renamed into 28.leichte-Division.
It was put into action on the Krim and later fought also in the areas of Wolchow, Leningrad, Minsk, Kowel and East Prussia.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
