The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier/NCO who served in the Stabskompanie 1.Staffel Jagdgeschwader 52. This geschwader was the most succesfull geschwader of the war and was the entire war equipped with the Messerschmitt Bf109. The unit took part in the most important battles of the war such as during the invasion of France, Battle of Britain, Operation Barbarossa, Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kursk and more.
The 1.Staffel of the Geschwader operated from a lot of different airfields during the war. From airfields in Germany, Holland (Katwijk, Woensdrecht, Leeuwarden), France, Russia, Poland.
The 'AB' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
