Very nice aluminium Luftwaffe Kampfgeschwader related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. The number '62932' tells us the soldier served within the 5./II.Gruppe Kampfgeschwader zur besonderen Verfügung 1. This Gruppe was formed in in late August 1939 in Stendal. It operated in the Junkers Ju52 . This was the standard Luftwaffe transport plane and was used for Paratroop droppings and cargo droppings.
It flew its first combat mission during the invasion of Denmark and Norway. In June 1941 the II.Gruppe flew missions in the Dnjepropetrowsk (Ukrain) area. In 1942 it operated during the Kessel von Demjansk and in November 1942 it flew missions to supply troops in Stalingrad.
In May 1943 it the unit was renamend into Transportgeschwader 1. It operated in Ukrain and in the last stages of the war in Germany. The base of the II.Gruppe was Fledflugplatz Ferschweiler in the Eiffel area.
