The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 3.Kompanie Westheer Bataillon 306, but was also known as the I.Bataillon Kampfgruppe Katzmann. This bataillon was formed in September 1944 from the remains of the 84.Infanterie-Division that was destroyed in France. It consisted out of only 570 men and participated in the battle of Overloon in October 1944. After that it fought in the Kleve area. It was later used to form Grenadier Regiment 1062.
