The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a Soldier/NCO who served in the Stabskompanie II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 39. This regiment was also known as Infanterie Regiment München before the Reichswehr became the Wehrmacht. It was part of the 26.Infanterie-Division. It saw its first combat during the invasion of Belgium and France in the spring of 1940. From June 1941 onwards it operated in Russia and fought in areas like Kalinin, Rshew, Bolchow, Donbogen, Orel and Smolensk.
The 'A' on both parts on the back of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
