Both documents show signs of wear. Both folded in the middle, but still solid. Both documents have some sticker residu on the back. The Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber was award on 28 Januari 1943 for the wound he got on 10 March 1942.The Eisernes Kreuz II.Klasse was awarded on 11 March 1943. This document is signed by General der Infanterie Walter Schroth, wearer of the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes.
Alfred served in the 4.MG Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 514. This regiment was formed in Februari 1940 and was part of the 294.Infanterie-Division. It saw its first combat during the Balkanfeldzug in 1941. After this campaign it particitpated in the invasion of Russia. It saw combat in areas like Kiew, Charkow,Donbogen,Mius,Nikopol and Odessa.
