The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 4.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Bataillon 139. This regiment was formed in August 1939 in Klagenfurt. It trained and supplied soldiers for Gebirgsjäger Regiment 139 which was part of the 3.Gebirgs-Division. This division operated in Poland in 1939 and after that in Narvik, Norwegen, Finland and later also in Russia in areas like Leningrad, Donez, Mius, Nikopol and more.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stand for the soldiers' bloodtype.
