Interesting, but sad grouping of a soldier who died of his wounds in a a reserve Lazarett.

The Wehrpass shows normal signs of use. It's solid and complete with all pages. It belonged to soldier Ernst Baumhardt. Ernst was drafted in June 1940 in the 1.Kompanie MG Ersatz Bataillon 14. In early October he switched to the 5.Kompanie of the same bataillon and by the eind of the same month he became a member of the 7.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 124 as part of the 72.Infanterie-Division. At that time the regiment was stationed in France and served as an ocupation force. In Januari 1941 thed division and her units moved to Rumania for training for the Balkanfeldzug. In April 1941 it fought on the Metatax Linie in Greece. Saw combat in Thessalien, Thermopylen and Athen. 
During the start of the invasion of Russia the regiment prepared itself to participate in it which happened in July 1941. It participated in a lot of different battles in areas like Dnjestr, Odessa, Wossnessensk, Nokolajew, Cherson and Perekop. (See the battle calender in the Wehrpass for more information).
Ernst was promoted Gefreiter on 1.8.1941. He earned the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber (14.11.1941) and the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz (13.4.1942). Ernst got wounded during combat on the 15.9.1941 by shrapnel in his right upperarm and right thigh. Ernst died on the 17.10.1942 in Reserve Lazarett Rüdesheim (Germany). He is burried on the War Cemetery in Russelsheim.
The Wehrpass comes with a photograph of Ernst that was taken during his time in Greece and one half of his dog tag (erkennungsmarke) is also part of the lot.
