Nice aluminium pre war/early war produced dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' in used, but very good condition.
The tag shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was draften in the 1.Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 16. This bataillon was formed in August 1939 in Oldenburg. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 16 which was part of the 22.(LL)Infanterie-Division (Luftlande).
Infanterie Regiment 16 was put into action in Rotterdam during the invasion of Rotterdam.
The ersatz bataillon was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 16 in November 1942 and in September 1944 moved to the Netherlands where it was used to for the I.Bataillon Grenadier Bataillon 1221.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
