The document or 'Urkunde' shows overall normal signs of wear. The Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2.Klasse was award to Obergefreiter Paul Uhlig on the 20th of April 1944. Paul served within the Wirschaft-Straßen-Transport-Dienst (Bereich) 4
This unit was formed in July 1942 as Wirtschaft Kraftwagen Transport Regiment z.b.V. 628. It was part of the Wirtschaft Kraftwagen Transport Brigade 1 and operated on the eastern front. In Mai 1943 the unit was renamed into Wirtschaft-Straßen-Transport-Dienst 4 Süd. In the last stages of the war the unit operated in Hungary in the Passau area.

The document is signed by General der Artillerie Eduard Wagner who was a conspirator against Hitler and part of the assasenation against Hitler that took place on the 15th of July 1944. Wagner arranged that airplane that took von Stauffenberg from Rastenburg back to Berlin after the bomb that was believed to have killed Hitler had exploded, which of course didn't happen. Because Wagner was afraid to be arrested by the Gestapo he decided to take his own life by shooting himself on the 23rd of July 1944.
