Very nice and hard to find Bau Kolonne 252 dog tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the Kolonne Bau Bataillon 252. The '(T MOT)' stands for 'Teils Motorisiert' or partly motorized.
Bau Bataillon 252 was formed in August 1939 in Hannover from RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) men. In early 1940 the bataillon was renamed into Eisenbahn-Bau-Bataillon 252 and in April of that same year it was used to form Eisenbahn-Bau-Bataillon 514. In early 1942 the bataillon operated in the Smolensk-Wjasma area and in Jun 1942 in the area of Smolensk-Ost. In August 1943 the bataillon was renamed into Eisenbahn-Baupionier-Bataillon 514. In early 1945 the bataillon became part of the 9.Armee and was put into action on the Oder front.
This tag is published in the book 'Deutsche Erkennungsmarken' by Jean Höidal (page 101).
