The overall condition of each item is very good. The award document is folded once in the middle. It was award on 30.Januari.1943 to Gefreiten Willi Gail who served in the 10.Kompanie Grenadier Regiment 20 (mot). This regiment has a long history as it started of in 1921 as 20. (Bayer.) Infanterie-Regiment. In 1936 it fell under the command of the 10.Infanterie-Division and saw action in France in 1940. In the summer it participated in the easter front campaign during Operation Bararossa. In October 1942 the Regiment was renamed Grenadier Regiment 20 (mot), Motorized. Still part of the 10.Infanterie-Division. It mainly fought in the Demjansk and Orel area. In Orel is where Willi Gail became a casualty and died. He became 22 years old and during his time as a soldier earned the Infanterie sturmabzeichen, Verwundetenabzeichen, Ostmedialle and Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2.Klasse. The document is signed by Generalleutnant and Ritterkreuzträger August Schmidt. A private made photograph, probably by Willi of one of his fellow comrades, of General Schmidt was made. The photo was taken in the summer of 1941. A copy of Willi Gail's death notice also comes with the set.
