The Wehrpass shows overall normal signs of wear. It's solid and complete with all pages and portrait of Franz. All pages with interesting entries have been scanned by us. It belonged to a soldier named Franz Hofer who was drafted into the 16 (Ersatz) Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 63 in October 1936. In late August 1938 until mid-May 1943 he served in the 1.Kompanie Gebirgs Träger Bataillon 55.
According to the 'gefechtskalender' on page 32/33 (and 47) Franz saw his first combat during the invasion of France in May 1940. He stayed in France until late August 1941. From September 1941 on Franz was put into action in Finnland. He switched unit for a month and served within the 4.Batterie Gebirgs Artillerie Regiment 111, but switched back to his old unit where he stayed until the end of the war. He operated the in Nordfinnland (Narvik).
Franz got wounded a couple of times and spent some time in different Feldlazaretts. He was skilled to operate the k98, l.M.G.13 and the l.M.G.34. During his time in the Wehrmacht Franz earned different medals/awards such as the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2.Klasse mit Schwerten, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, Ostmedaille and the Lapplandschild.

The Wehrpass comes with a target from a shooting contest Franz participated in. It's dated 2.12.1936. It also comes with a Personal Data sheet.
Nice pass of a Gebirgsjager related unit that is not that common.
