The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the Ausbildungslehrgang Fliegerhorst Kommandantur Einsatzhafen Varel. The build of this airfield started in 1936 and is situated south of Wilhelmshafen. The Fliegerhorst Kommandantur was formed in late August 1939. The airflied was the home base of Lehrgeschwader 1, Nagtjagdgeschwader 3 and Kampfgeschwader 30 'Adler'.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
