Death notice card of Franz Meier who was killed in action during fighting in the St.Lo area in mid June 1944.

The card shows overall normal signs of storage wear. Franz was a Gefreiter in the 10.Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Regiment 8. This relatively new regiment was formed in March 1944 and was part of the 3.Fallschirm-Division. In the first days of the Normandy invasion it operated in the Avranches area. Around 8/10 June it moved to the St.Lo - Bayeux area where heavy fighting with American soldiers errupted. During this fighting Franz must have been killed.
Franz is burried in the war cemetery of Marigny.
