Very nice zinc Flieger related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served/ was drafted in the 4.Kompanie Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment 33. This regiment was formed in April 1939 in Ingolstadt from Flieger Ersatz Abteilung 33. In August 1942 it became Flieger Regiment 33 and in mid October it was renamed into Luftwaffe Jäger Regiment 33 as part of the 17.Luftwaffe Feld-Division.
The division and her units moved from Germany to the French Channel Coast in January 1943 and from March until October it was stationed in Le Havre.
In November 1943 the division and her unit where taken over by the army (Heer) and in February 1944 the I.Bataillon (1-4.Kp.) of Luftwaffe Jäger Regiment 33 was used to form the I.Bataillon Luftwaffe Jäger Regiment 43 which was send to fight against the Russians.
The III.Bataillon of Luftwaffe Jäger Regiment 33 was then used to form the I.Bataillon of Regiment 33 and participated in the Normandy Campaign that started on the 6th of June 1944. In September of that year the division was destroyed in the Belgium area of Gent whilst retreating and remnants where absorbed by the 167.Volks-Grenadier-Division.
