The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 3.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Regiment 139. This regiment was formed in February 1940 in Klagenfurt. The Gebirgsjäger-Ersatz-Bataillone I.und II. 139 were part of this regiment.
A part of the ersatz regiment 139 participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia.
The tag comes with a neckcord and was published in the book 'Mountain Soldiers of WWII'. See the last scan.
