Very nice aluminium Gebirgsjäger Regiment 138 related dogtag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 14.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Regiment 138. This regiment was formed in August 1938 from the Austrian Infanterie Regiment 11 and Alpenjäger Regiment 9 and 10. Gebirgsjäger Regiment 138 was part of the 3.Gebirgs-Division and parts of the regiment fought during the invasion of Poland, but the entire regiment was put into action during the invasion of Norway in April 1940. The 14.Kompanie of the regiment was shipped to Norway on the heavy cruiser the Admiral Hipper.
On the eastern front the division and her units fought in areas like Leningrad, Don, Donez, Mius, Melitopol and Nikopol. And in the last stage of the war it fought in Hungary and Slovakia.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Very nice tag of an Gebirgsjäger Regiment with a rich history.
