The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 1.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Ersatz Bataillom 138. This bataillon trained and supplied soldiers for Gebirgsjäger Regiment 138 the 3.Gebirgs-Division. This division operated in Poland in 1939 and after that in Narvik, Norwegen, Finland and later also in Russia in areas like Leningrad, Donez, Mius, Nikopol and more.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldiers' bloodtype.
