Very nice Flieger Regiment related erkennungsmarke in used, but good condition.

The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier that served in 1.Kompanie I.Abteilung Flieger Regiment 71. This regiment was formed in April 1939 in Sorau as Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment 71. In August 1942 the regiment became Flieger Regiment 72 and the I.Abteilung was stationed in Montpellier, Southern France.
It fought fiercely against the Americans in late August and early September 1944 in the Montelimar and Lyon area.
On the back a vague POW number can be seen that was scratched in by the soldier.
Interesting dogtag.
