Very nice and hard to find Vermessungsbatterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the Vermessungs-Batterie Beobachtungs Abteilung motorisiert 36. This unit was formed in late August 1939 and was part of the 36.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of France that took place in May 1940. After dat it participatd in the invasion of Russia that started in June 1941. It operated in areas like Pleskau, Leningrad, Bor and Baranowa.
In March 1942 the abteilung became a leichte Beobachtungs Abteilung (mot) 36. At the same time the 1.Vermessungs-Batterie was disbanned.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
