The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a NCO or CO who served in the Stab Pionier Bataillon 52. This bataillon was formed in October 1936. In 1939 the bataillon became part of the Armeetruppe "K" and was stationed in the Mittelrhein area. In 1940 it participated in the invasion of France and in the summer of 1941 it operated in Southern Russia in areas like Donez, Stalino, Charkow. During the retreat of the Germany army it also operated in Hungary and at last in Slowakia.
The 'A' carved in by the soldier himself is his bloodtype.
