Very nice Luftwaffe related tag in used, but good condition of that belonged to a soldier who served in 2 different units.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Stab Luftwaffe Pionier Bataillon 19. However when we look at the back of the tag we see that the soldier first served in the Stab Flak Regiment 51. At some point he must have switched units and joined in the Stabskompanie of the Pionier Bataillon. This bataillon was formed in November 1943 in the Netherlands. It was part of the 19.Feld-Division (L) which was stationed on the island of Walcheren and in parts of Zuid-Beveland.
In June 1944 the division was renamed into 19.Luftwaffen-Sturm-Division and it was transported to Italy. The division and her units were used for coastal protection in the Grosseto area.
The larger part of Luftwaffe Pionier Bataillon 19 was then used to rebuild Pionier Bataillon 20 (L) which had sufferred losses due to heavy fights.
Interesting tag.
