Very nice and hard to fin Granatwerfer related dog tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the scwere Granatwerfer Kompanie 272. This companie was the 13.kompanie of Infanterie Regiment 272. This regiment was formed in September 1939. It wa spart ofthe 93.Infanterie-Division and saw combat during the invasion of France in May 1940. From July 1941 it was put into action in Russia and fought in areas like Leningrad, Wolchow, Cholm and later in Lettland (Kurland). In Oktober 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 272.
Schwere Granatwerfer units were equipped with the 8cm mortar, but also the heavier 12cm one.
