The overall condition of the photograph is very good. Josef (posing in front of the fort) was awarded the Knight's Cross on the 21 of Mai 1940 whilst he was a (Oberfeldwebel) Stoßtruppführer 1.Kompanie Pionier-Bataillon (mot) 51. He earned the award for his actions attacking fort Eben Emael.
