Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Schützen related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Pionier Zug motorisiert II.Bataillon Schützen Regiment 4. This regiment was formed inlate August 1939 from Kavallerie Schützen Regiment 4 and was part of the 1.leichte-Division. It saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland in September 1939.
After the invasion the the division was renamed into the 6.Panzer-Division. In Mai 1940 it participated in the invasion of Belgium and then France. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia that started in June 1941.
In July 1942 the regiment was renamed into Panzergrenadier Regiment 4.
Soldiers of a Schützen Regiment are the ones you often see in the Sd.Kfz's (halftracks) and are part of a Panzer Regiment/Division.
