Runic script is the oldest known script used by the Germanic peoples. Because of their Germanic origins, runes were extensively used by the Nazis. The image of the double lightning bolt of the SS and single lightning bolt of the 'Deutsche Jugend', the Sig rune (ᛋ), is well known.
The Rune on this brooch means Algiz or (elk) which is a is a powerful symbol from the Elder Guthark representing protection, defense and spirtual connection, with its shape resembling either elk antlers, upraised arms, or the Norse god Hemdall.
