Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the Panzer Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon 40.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 40 was formed in the summer of 1939 and trained soldiers for the 19.Infanterie-Division. From December 1940 the bataillon trained soldiers for the 27.Infanterie-Division. In December 1940 it trained soldiers for the 17.Panzer-Divison. In November 1943 the bataillon was devided into an ersatz and a reserve bataillon. The ersatz bataillon stayed in Germany as for the reserve bataillon it moved to France. The ersatz bataillon was mobilized in April 1945 within Panzer-Ausbildungs-Verband Böhmen.
