The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Kraftwagen Werkstatt Zug 584. This zug was part of the Nachschub Kolonnen Abteilung 584. This abteilung was formed in late august 1939 and operated in Poland during the invasion, then participated in the Westfeldzug and from June 1941 on in Russia as part of Heeresgruppe Nord. In January 1943 the abteilung was renamed into Kraftfahr-Abteilung 584.
A Werkstatt or Workshop company were responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles.
