The set shows overall signs of wear. The unit was formed in in the summer of 1939 as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 90 (motorisiert) and trained/supplied soldiers for the 20.Infanterie-Division. In May 1940 the bataillon was moved to Denmark for security duty, but moved back to Germany in August and in November formed the Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 80 (motorisiert).
In the same month the bataillon was formed again. This time as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 90. In 1941 it became a motorized bataillon again and in early 1944 it supplied soldiers for Panzer Grenadier Regiment 90 and Panzer Grenadier Regiment Norwegen.
The dog tag comes with its original pouch which is in worn, but good and supple condition. The original neck cord is also present. In the pouch was a shrapnel piece which the soldier may have collected and kept as a souvenir.
