The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 47 Bataillon was formed in the summer of 1939 and in October 1942 renamed in Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon 47. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 47 which was part of the 22.Infanterie-Division from the beginning, it also supplied men for the 560.Volks-Grenadier-Division since August 1944. This division was moved in late 1944 from Denmark to the Ardennes were it fought fiercely against the Americans.
The Gren.Ers.u.Ausb.Btl.47 was moved to the Netherlands in September 1944 and became the I.Bataillon of Grenadier Regiment 1221 which was part of 180.Infanterie-Division. In late 1944 and 1945 it fought in the Venlo area.
