Very nice and hard to find Gewerkschaft Baden related tag in excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a member/worker who works at the Baden trade union or 'Gewerkschaft Baden'. This was the potash salt mine in Buggingen which had 3 shafts, Baden, Markgraf and Heitersheim.
There was a barracks camp on the factory site where foreign labourers (Alsatians, Poles and other military internees) were housed during the Second World War. During the war, operations were cancelled several times due to the proximity of the front and fighting. During these demolitions, the workforce was required to work on the Westwall entrenchments and some of them were assigned to the construction companies deployed there.
Towards the end of the war, the factory employees were drafted into the Volkssturm.
Interesting tag!
