The frog shows overall normal signs of wear. The leather is supple. Nicely marked on the back 'BAXII16' what means Bekleidungs Amt 12.Armee. It's also marked by the maker 'ACT'Ges.H.Thiele' from Dresden and dated 1916. It's also verticaly marked but very hard to see. We think it says 13.Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment. The second! unit marking reads II./I.R.12 which stands for II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 12.
This regiment dated back as early as 1923! and as a Wehrmacht unit saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland as part of the 31.Infanterie-Division. After Poland it participated in the invasion of Belgium and then France. From June 1941 it saw combat on the Russian front in areas like Bialystok,Smolensk,Tula,Juchnow,Gomel and Bobruisk. In June 1944 the Division and her unit where destroyed. The division, now named 31.Grenadier-Division, and units where rebuild from the remaining/surviving troops. In October the division was renamed into the 31.Volks-Grenadier-Division and saw action in Kurland, Thorn and Hela.
