The document is in overall good condition. Folded once. It was awarded to Heinrich Slichtling who served in the 7.Kompanie II.Bataillon Gebirgsjäger Regiment 99. He was awarded to medal on 21.August 1939. This regiment was formed in Oktober 1935 and was later part of the 1.Gebirgs-Division. in May 1940 the regiment marched through Belgium and Luxembourg to France where it fought multiple battles. In March 1941 the regiment moved east and in April saw combat in Yugoslavia. In June of the year it participated in Operation Barbarossa and a week later Lemberg was reached. The rest of the war it saw combat in areas like Mius,Charkow,Kuban and later Serbia,Montenegro,Griechenland,Korfu and Hungary. The document is signed by Hermann Kress, at that moment Oberstleutnant und Regiments Kommandeur. He later became commander of the 4.Gebirgs-Division and reached the rank of Generalleutnant. He was killed in action by a Russian sniper on the 11th of August 1943.
