The regiment was formed in December 1941 and was part of the 23.Panzer-Division. It saw its first action in Russia in the Charkow area. After that in areas like Terek, Don, Mius, Stalino and from the last months of 1944 till April 1945 in Hungary. Pz.Art.Rgt.128 was in 1941/1942 equipped with the Le.F.H.18 howitser
