The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. They used a Stalag style tag in this case. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the 5.Kompanie Feld Ersatz Bataillon 197/1. This unit was formed in on the Russian front in early 1942 as part of the Divisionseintheiten der 197.Infanterie-Division.
The 'A' stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
