Nice and hard to encounter Sturzkampfgeschwader 165 related erkennungsmarke in worn, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 5.Flughafen Betriebs Kompanie II.Gruppe Sturzkampfgeschwader (Stukageschwader) 165. This unit (II.Gruppe) was formed in April 1937. It was eqquiped with the Heinkel He 51, der Arado Ar 65, Henschel Hs 123.
In May 1939 the unit was renamed into Sturzkampfgeschwader 77. The II.Gruppe Sturzkampfgeschwader 165 became the II.Gruppe Sturzkampfgeschwader 77 and was equipped with the Junkers Ju 87B (Stuka).
It participated in the invasion of Poland and later the invasion of Belgium and France. After that it participated in the 'Luftschlacht um England' and in the year 1941 it was part of the 'Balkanfeldzug' before it operated on the eastern front.
A Betriebs-Kompanie is a unit that repairs and services the planes. The soldier of this tag probably switched units since the number of his old unit was ereased and replaced with the number '165'.
