The tag shows overall normal signs of wear. The abteilung was formed in October 1935 as Beobachtungs-Abteilung 24 and was part of the 24.Infanterie-Division. It was first put into action (Northen Russia) in 1941 during the invasion of Russia. In April 1942 the abteilung became leichte Beobachtungs-Abteilung (mot) 24. In 1945 the abteilung was part of the 9.Armee and was put into action on the Oder.
