Very nice aluminium dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' from a soldier who served in the 3.Kompanie Schützen Regiment 3.
The dog tag shows normal signs of wear. The bataillon was formed in October 1935. The I.Bataillon was formed from Reiter Regiment 11. The regiment was part of the 3.Panzer-Division. The division and her unit where put into action during the invasion of Holland, Belgium and France. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia in June 1941. It saw action in areas like Minsk, Smolensk, Kiew, Charkow, Tscherkassy, Kursk and many more places.
In July 1942 the regiment was renamed into Panzer Grenadier Regiment 3.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Soldiers of a Schützen Regiment are the ones you often see in the Sd.Kfz's (halftracks) and are part of a Panzer Regiment/Division.
Interesting Panzer infanterie related dog tag which is not easy to find.
