Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 3.Kompanie Füsilier-Regiment Großdeutschland.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The Füsilier-Regiment Großdeutschland was formed in October 1942 and was part of Infanterie-Division Großdeutschland. It saw combat in Russia in areas like Rshew,Smolensk and Charkow. In May 1943 the division was renamed into Panzer-Grenadier-Division Großdeutschland.
In August 1944, the I.Battalion was replaced by the Panzer Grenadier Bataillon Großdeutschland. In In late December 1944 the battalion was divided among units of the Panzerkorps Großdeutschland. It fought untill the end of the war in the Oder area.
The 'A' on the dog tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier. This was done by himself.
