Nice zinc Wehrmacht Landesschützen related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 3.Kompanie Landesschützen Bataillon 690. This unit was formed in early August 1940 and transported short after to France were it had the task to guard prisoners of war at POW camp(s). It fell under the command of Militarbefehlshaber Frankreich. In December 1940 the bataillon moved to Bordeaux and in 1943 it moved to Médard.
After the Wehrmacht left/retreated France the bataillon was disbanned.
The 'AB' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype. The number 4 is his personal number or 'stammrollnummer'.
